Project Logistics Specialist

Position Description

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Project Logistics Specialist to join and grow our team. The purpose of the role is to plan, govern and deliver the movement of heavy-lift, out-of-gauge, break-bulk and other critical project cargo for AME capital projects, expansions and shutdowns, routing each consignment from international origin through the Durban, Walvis Bay and Dar es Salaam corridors into the DRC, Zambia, Tanzania and the wider AME footprint, delivering to required-on-site (ROS) dates safely, compliantly and at the lowest landed cost.

Join our exceptional team and embody Barrick's core values as you work with us. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

  • Communicating Honestly, Transparently, and Acting with Integrity
  • Exhibiting a Results-Driven approach
  • Delivering solutions that are Fit for Purpose
  • Dedicating themselves to Building a Sustainable Legacy
  • Taking Responsibility and being Accountable
  • Committing to Zero Harm
  • Cultivating strong and meaningful Partnerships

If you're ready to contribute to our world-class team while embracing these values, we encourage you to apply and become a valued member of our diverse workforce.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the end-to-end project logistics plan for each capital project and expansion, aligning procurement, manufacturing and shipping schedules with EPCM construction milestones and owner ramp-up dates.
  • Plan the multimodal (sea, air, road and rail) route for every heavy-lift, out-of-gauge, break-bulk and containerised package, selecting the corridor, port and mode that best balances cost, risk and ROS date.
  • Commission and approve abnormal-load route surveys, convoy plans, load designs and escort, permit and road-authority requirements before any oversized cargo is released.
  • Manage port operations at Durban, Walvis Bay and Dar es Salaam, including vessel discharge, port storage, bonded-warehouse handling, consolidation and deconsolidation.
  • Uphold customs, cross-border and mining-import compliance on every corridor, including pre-clearance, BIVAC/SGS/Intertek inspections, Clean Reports of Findings and dangerous-goods (IMCO) documentation.
  • Run the RFQ/RFT process for freight forwarders, heavy-transport, crane and chartering contractors, negotiating rates and holding providers to agreed scope, cost and performance.
  • Own the project logistics budget and finance forecast, tracking actuals against plan and controlling demurrage, detention, storage and variation costs.
  • Maintain the project risk register, contingency plans and buffer strategies against port congestion, border delays, weather, security and energy-supply constraints.
  • Run daily track-and-trace and the critical-path delivery schedule, escalating early and mobilising recovery options whenever an ROS date is at risk.
  • Lead and develop the project cargo team and Load Master, and coordinate sub-contractors, ensuring HSE standards and safe systems of work on every move.
  • Deliver the project logistics reporting suite (weekly shipment updates, monthly KPI dashboards and executive summaries, and quarterly compliance reports) to owner and EPCM leadership.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain or Transport Management; Chartered Membership of CILT (CMILT) or equivalent professional registration preferred.

Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • 15+ years in project cargo and freight forwarding, including at least 5 years managing project logistics for large mining or EPCM capital projects.
  • Proven delivery of heavy-lift, out-of-gauge and abnormal loads into remote mine sites in the DRC, Zambia and the wider sub-Saharan region.
  • In-depth knowledge of the North-South, Walvis Bay and Dar es Salaam corridors, Southern and Central African customs regimes, and pre-shipment inspection requirements.
  • Strong commercial skills in tendering, rate negotiation, chartering, transport insurance and logistics budget control.
  • Experience working within EPCM procurement frameworks and reporting to owner and contractor leadership.
  • SAP, logistics/transport management system and Power BI (or similar reporting tool) proficiency.

What We Can Offer You:

  • A comprehensive compensation package including bonuses and site-specific benefits
  • The ability to make a difference and lasting impact
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
  • Opportunities to grow and learn with industry colleagues
  • Access to a variety of career opportunities across the organization

We are committed to a safe work environment sending every person home safe and healthy every day and leaving a sustainable legacy on our host communities.
