In tax payroll services at PwC, you will provide advice and guidance to clients on tax-related payroll matters. You will facilitate compliance with tax regulations in payroll processing, assist businesses in calculating and withholding taxes from employee wages, and help resolve payroll tax issues.
Our HR and Payroll team is expanding as the portfolio grows across managed payroll, payroll set-up and transition, compliance reviews, process improvement and technology-enabled implementation projects. We are looking for a motivated Payroll Intern who will support the team with payroll data preparation, reconciliations, documentation and project administration while developing practical knowledge of Azerbaijan payroll, labour and tax requirements.
The successful candidate will:
- Collect, organise and validate payroll inputs received from clients, including employee master data, timesheets, leave records, HR orders, bonuses, deductions and bank details.
- Assist with preparation of payroll calculation files under the supervision of experienced team members, including standard salary, leave, sick leave, business trips, overtime, night work and public-holiday inputs.
- Support the preparation of payroll registers, payslips, bank-payment schedules, payroll journals and statutory reporting schedules.
- Perform basic reconciliations between payroll inputs, calculation files, employee outputs and accounting schedules; identify differences and document follow-up points.
- Maintain payroll calendars, data-request lists, status trackers, filing folders and supporting documentation for several client engagements.
- Support payroll compliance reviews by extracting information, checking samples against source documents, updating testing files and organising evidence.
- Conduct supervised research on Azerbaijan payroll, labour and employment-tax matters and help prepare short technical summaries or monthly updates.
- Assist with preparation of client presentations, reports, process maps and working papers using PwC templates.
- Handle employee and client data confidentially, follow documented instructions and PwC quality requirements, and escalate missing, inconsistent or sensitive information promptly.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Human Resources or a related field.
- Basic understanding of accounting, payroll, employment taxation or Azerbaijan labour legislation; relevant coursework or internship exposure is an advantage.
- Strong numerical accuracy and confidence working with structured data.
- Good Excel skills, including formulas, sorting, filtering and basic lookups;
- Fluency in Azerbaijani and good written and spoken English. Russian and/or Turkish is an advantage.
- Ability to organise documents and data carefully, follow instructions and meet agreed deadlines.
- High level of discretion and responsibility when handling personal and payroll information.
- Clear communication, teamwork, curiosity and willingness to ask questions and learn from review feedback.
- Availability to work consistently according to the internship schedule agreed with the HR team.
- Interest in building a career in payroll, HR operations, tax compliance or technology-enabled workforce services.
Why join us:
- Gain supervised experience across managed payroll, compliance reviews, process improvement and implementation projects.
- Build practical foundations across multiple sectors, workforce structures and working-time regimes.
- Learn through collaboration with payroll, HR, tax, labour-law, accounting, technology and regional teams.
- Develop core capabilities in Excel, payroll documentation, controls, data quality and digital tools.
