Director, Product Management (Payments)
Lightspeed Commerce — Toronto
Posted 2026-11-02
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by 👋
Are you actively looking for a new opportunity? Or just checking the market? Well… you might just be in the right place!
Lightspeed is seeking a Director of Product Management to own the Payments line of business within Financial Services. You will lead Group PMs and Senior PMs across North America and EMEA, and you will be accountable for payments penetration and GPV growth across our Retail and Hospitality platforms.
Financial Services helps merchants get paid faster and with less effort. Success means experiences that are:
- Integrated: Payments feel native across every surface and workflow.
- Invisible: Friction is removed and we stay out of the merchant's way.
- Instant: Funds are fast, accessible, and clearly accounted for.
You own the product strategy and the business outcomes for Payments, including top-line metrics such as total GPV, payments penetration (share of checkout), new paid sold, merchant onboarding conversion, and line of business revenue. You drive multi-year transformations and keep Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams aligned.
You will report to the VP of Product, Financial Services, and partner with Engineering Directors, Design leaders, and Commercial executives.
Key Areas of focus:
- Strategic Vision and Business Outcomes (35%): Defining a multi-year product vision and roadmap aligned with corporate OKRs, with accountability for driving GPV, market penetration, and revenue growth.
- Organizational Leadership and Talent (25%): Developing and empowering Group Product Managers and Staff Product Managers, while driving effective hiring, building a strong team culture, and establishing succession plans.
- Cross-Functional and Commercial Alignment (20%): Building strong partnerships across Engineering, Design, GTM, Sales, Operations, and Finance, while navigating business trade-offs and ensuring alignment on strategic priorities.
- Product Excellence and Systems Thinking (20%): Establishing product governance, strengthening discovery and delivery practices, and driving the consolidation of fragmented platform capabilities into cohesive product experiences.
What you’ll be doing:
- Define and communicate the multi year product strategy for Payments, and tie it to company OKRs and P&L targets.
- Own the line of business outcomes: payments penetration, GPV growth, and merchant onboarding conversion.
- Lead, coach, and hold accountable Group PMs and Senior PMs across Retail (X-Series and R-Series) and Hospitality (K-Series) platforms.
- Hire top talent and develop product leaders from within, with clear career paths and succession plans.
- Raise product management standards in discovery, commercial modeling, pricing and packaging, and data driven execution.
- Partner with Engineering Directors, Design, Product Marketing, Sales, Operations, and Finance to align commercial targets with delivery.
- Manage key partner relationships with payment processors and acquirers, and shape how we build, buy, and partner.
- Consolidate fragmented payments capabilities into a coherent platform across product lines.
- Balance long term platform bets with quarterly commitments, and make decisive trade offs under uncertainty.
- Represent product direction to the C suite and the Board, with clear metrics and a point of view.
What you need to bring:
- Experience
- 2 to 3+ years at Director level (or equivalent) managing larger teams through direct and indirect reports, including Group PMs.
- Ownership of a full line of business or major product vertical, such as payments, billing, or POS, with clear accountability for commercial outcomes.
- A track record of hiring, developing, and promoting product leaders.
- Experience driving structural, technical, or strategic change in a mature technology organization.
- Strong executive presence with VP and C suite partners.
- Business and technical competencies
- Deep grasp of business models, unit economics, pricing, and how product decisions shape the P&L.
- Fluency in payments ecosystems (acquiring, interchange, settlement, reconciliation, compliance).
- Strong understanding of platform architecture, APIs, and microservices, and experience leading platform consolidation and migrations.
- Comfort with data infrastructure, conversion funnels, and reporting pipelines for data backed decisions.
- Experience governing business critical, high availability customer flows.
- Familiarity with lean product delivery, agile frameworks, and continuous delivery across multi team organizations.
- Leadership competencies
- Systems and portfolio thinking: sees products as interconnected ecosystems, not isolated features.
- Leading through leaders: drives outcomes by coaching and empowering Group PMs rather than managing squad level detail.
- Navigating complexity: brings clarity to ambiguous, fast changing environments.
- Decisive leadership: makes high stakes calls quickly with sound judgment.
- Strategic foresight: defines a compelling multi year vision tied to company strategy.
- Customer focus: rooted in merchant empathy across both retail and hospitality.
- Relentless outcome orientation (#makeithappen): delivers ambitious goals despite roadblocks.
