Summary:
As a Custom Software Engineer, a typical day involves designing, building, and optimizing scalable data models and data pipelines using SAP BTP Datasphere within the SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) landscape. The role requires leading technical design, developing robust data integration and semantic solutions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver governed and high-performing data products. The work involves integrating SAP S/4HANA and other enterprise data sources, enabling analytics through SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), and applying security, lineage, performance, and development best practices. This position requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to mentor junior developers while delivering scalable and maintainable data solutions.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Expected to be an SME, collaborate and manage the team to perform.
Responsible for team decisions and technical design across SAP Datasphere and SAP Business Data Cloud solutions.
Engage with multiple teams and contribute to key architectural and technical decisions.
Provide solutions to complex data integration, modeling, and performance-related problems for the immediate team and across multiple teams.
Design, build, and optimize SAP Datasphere artifacts including views, data flows, replication flows, transformation flows, and task chains.
Develop semantic models and analytical datasets to support reporting and analytics requirements in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).
Design and deliver governed data products within the SAP Business Data Cloud landscape.
Extract and integrate data from SAP S/4HANA using custom CDS views, including delta handling, annotations, and DCLs.
Integrate SAP Datasphere with SAP Databricks and other relevant enterprise data platforms.
Apply security, data lineage, governance, and performance optimization standards across data solutions.
Lead implementation of development best practices and CI/CD approaches to improve solution quality and team productivity.
Mentor junior developers and support their technical development and knowledge building.
Coordinate cross-functional efforts to align data solutions with organizational and business objectives.
Professional & Technical Skills:
Must To Have Skills: Proficiency in SAP BTP Datasphere and SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC).
Strong experience in data warehousing, Business Intelligence, and dimensional data modeling.
Hands-on experience in building SAP Datasphere artifacts including views, data flows, replication flows, transformation flows, and task chains.
Strong knowledge of semantic modeling and integration with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).
Strong proficiency in SQL and SQL Script for data transformation, modeling, and performance optimization.
Strong understanding of SAP S/4HANA data structures and data extraction.
Experience in ABAP CDS views, VDM layering, annotations, delta extraction, and DCLs.
Experience in integrating SAP Datasphere with SAP Databricks and other data platforms.
Knowledge of data security, governance, lineage, and performance optimization standards.
Experience with CI/CD practices for data and analytics solutions.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex data modeling, integration, and performance issues.
Additional Information:
The candidate should have 6–10+ years of experience in Data Warehousing/BI, with 2–3+ years of hands-on experience in SAP BTP Datasphere.
Experience with SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) and enterprise data product concepts is preferred.
Preferred certifications include:
SAP Certified Associate – Business Data Cloud (C BCBDC)
SAP Data Engineer – Data Fabric / Datasphere
C BDCDA Data Architect certification as a stretch/preferred credential
This position is based at our Pune office.
