The professor who is hired will also be responsible for the 1.5-credit course FSS 3920, which will be offered concurrently and at the same time. The professor must be able to teach in both French and English.

Description:

Completion, individually or in small groups, of a supervised self-directed experiential activity that is guided by the principles of experiential learning. Students will reflect on the transferable competencies, in particular the uOCompetencies, acquired during the experiential activity while making connections to their academic studies.

Qualifications:

The self-directed course (also called student-led individually-created course) is an experiential learning format at the University of Ottawa. The course will be offered in an online asynchronous format in English and French as a single section and requires full bilingualism, both in writing and speaking. The course is reserved for a doctoral student pursuing a Ph.D. in the humanities or arts.

The candidate must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of, and hands-on experience with, the University of Ottawa’s self-directed course model, including its structure and operation, student support processes, assessment framework, and associated administrative requirements.

He or she must also have experience in asynchronous online teaching and learning, either as a teaching assistant, instructor, or in any other equivalent role. Excellent proficiency with the University of Ottawa’s educational technology tools, particularly the Brightspace learning management system, is also required. Knowledge of the University of Ottawa’s career development and experiential learning resources, including the uOCompetencies framework, as well as experience working with these resources, is considered an asset.

Additional Information and/or Comments:

An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience. If you are invited to continue the selection process, please notify us of any adaptive measures you might require. Information you send us will be handled respectfully and in complete confidence. Employees are required under provincial law to successfully complete all mandatory legislated training. The list of training may be modified by provincial law.
